Dental Implants vs. Bridges: Which Is Right for You?

6 min readHi-Fidelity Dental

Losing a tooth isn't just cosmetic — it affects how you chew, how your other teeth sit, and how your jawbone holds its shape. The two most common replacements are implants and bridges. Here's how they compare.

Dental implants replace the root and the crown. A titanium post integrates with the jawbone, preserving bone height and function. Implants can last decades and don't rely on neighboring teeth.

Bridges use the adjacent teeth as anchors for a false tooth in the middle. They're faster and often less expensive up front, but they require reshaping healthy teeth and don't stop bone loss under the missing tooth.

When we typically recommend implants: healthy adjacent teeth, adequate bone (or willingness to graft), and a long-term outlook.

When bridges make sense: adjacent teeth already need crowns, medical reasons that rule out surgery, or timeline / budget constraints.

The best answer is almost always the one we arrive at together after a consultation. Book one at hifidelitydental.com/contact.

Frequently asked

Do implants last longer than bridges?

Yes — implants routinely last 25+ years; bridges typically 10–15.

Is an implant more expensive than a bridge?

Up front, usually. Over a lifetime, implants often cost less because bridges need replacement more often.
